About the Instructor
I started my working life as a university researcher - but only my mother calls me Dr Raybould. Then I spent over 24 years there, looking at everything from the causes of childhood cancer all the way to patterns of divorce! With 100+ research publications to my name, what this means is this: everything you're going to get is absolutely based on hardcore research. It's not just opinion - it's not just personal experience. What you get is stuff that works in general, not just for the trainer! :) Experience is great, but science is greater. (I know that's bad grammar, sorry! ;) )
I've also worked as an actor, playwright, lighting designer for dance companies, trainer and author. What that means for you is that what you get isn't just boring science. I've also been a professional speaker for nearly ten years now. In other words, I've been at the hard edge of it. I now what it feels like when people don't like your presentation as well as what it feels like to get an ovation. The research I did is all about real world presentations work though - not about being a professional speaker.
My latest book (called Presentation Genius, of course!) was published in 2015 and immediately shot into the top ten for business best-sellers!
Oh, and I'm a reasonably good fire eater, too...
PS, my presentation skills blog has over 500 articles about how to make presentations (and how not to). Google loves me ;) So even if you don't want the more structured material here, there's plenty of feebie content for you...
The course is self-contained, but if you need to drop me a line, go for it! :) I'll do my absolute best to get back to you all: email@example.com.
That's also the address if you want to book some live training, too, or to invite me to speak at your conference...
Who's this online course for?
YOU – Well, you if you're someone who uses their voice for work, but who isn't a professional voice specialist. For example, a teacher would really benefit, but a professional actor wouldn't learn anything new.
Most of us breathe inefficiently (some would even say wrongly) and pitch our voices in the wrong way. It makes us sound less cool, authentic and authoritative. This course alone won't make you sound as cool as Patrick Stewart (or the female equivalent, even!) but it's a damned good start.
Why learn voice skills online?
If you can't get to our face-to-face training sessions, online learning is the next best thing. You'll benefit from:
- No travel time or expenses
- Freedom to learn at your own pace
- Affordability to fit your budget
- Comfort of studying in your own home or office
- Ability to access the course anywhere in the world from any internet-enabled device – Mac, PC or tablet.
And yeah, before you ask, it's not as good as live.
After the course, you will be able to:
- Understand the science behind presentation skills
- Craft your presentations more easily
- Get your message across more clearly
- Use slides, props and other visual aids with relevance
- Keep your audience engaged
- Be more memorable
- Make a positive impact
- Grow your confidence in public speaking
- Take your presentations to another level
- Communicate better in all aspects of work and life
What you'll learn
- How to breath properly
Once you're breathing in the right way, a lot of your voice problems just go away and you sound cooler straight away. It also helps with nerves for big events and - really importantly - the rest of your life too.
- How your voice is structured
Understanding the bio-mechanics (don't worry, we don't go into too much technical detail) of how your body makes sounds helps you know how to treat it and protect it
- How to stand
Standing in the right way, with the tensions reduced or even removed makes you sound better, easier, for longer.
- How to be clear and easily heard
There's more research than you can ignore (unless you try very, very hard!) that being easily understood increases your credibility, likability and authority. The question isn't why you'd want to know this, it's more what your excuses are for not doing!
- Exercises for carrying on getting better
Well you didn't think one online course was going to do it alllll did you?
If it's that good why is it so cheap?
Mighty good question. There are two reasons, and because we like to be moral, we'll be up front about them.
The commercial reason is that we hope you like this course enough to buy our other training. The other reason is that the videos we've used to create this course were mainly taken from a recording of a live workshop. That means that
- we didn't feel good about charging the earth for something we'd got by that route;
- and frankly there are moments when you see how hard I'm working cos there are sweat stains: no one should pay a lot of money to see me sweating.
How does the course work?
You'll learn through a mixture of video, audio and written word, backed up by email support. The course takes about 18 hours to complete, including all the exercises.
You won't take everything in if you try to do it all in one go, so we recommend you spread the learning over a few weeks. To help you pace yourself, we'll send you a series of emails that suggest what you should work on next, and when. You'll also receive extra material and useful links.
Of course, you are welcome to ignore all the instructions, and jump around the modules if you prefer.
Presentation Genius is a complete online training course, supplemented by regular emails and bonus material over a month. This is a part of that course - the bit about using your voice. Pretty simple, really.
For completely personalised training, you'll have to attend a live course or book private mentoring with me.
So you want to be a Presentation Genius...
Being able to present well means you will potentially earn more money. How? Because recent research in Australia found that people with good presentation skills earn an extra $9,000AUS each year.
Good presentation skills also make you more employable in the first place. In fact, 2014 research of 6,000 US recruiters said it was the main thing employers look for – over twice as important as managerial skills.
What's more, being able to communicate well makes you more productive at work, which makes employers happy and businesses succeed.

*Genius level is not guaranteed, but if you're not happy with the online course just let us know in the first two weeks and we'll give your money back. We'll also leave you access to the site. Because we're good like that ;)
About your trainer
I'm a trainer, professional speaker, and the author of Presentation Genius (top ten best-selling business book, published 2015). Much of this particular course is based on my book 'The Little Big Voice" book. The Amazon page about it is here.
Formerly, I was a university research scientist, looking at anything from the causes of childhood cancer to patterns of divorce. Over 24 years in this role I wrote over 100 research publications. What this means to you is that all the course content is based on hardcore research; not just opinion.
I've also worked as an actor, playwright, lighting designer – oh, and a fire-eater. Obviously.
From this brief biography, you will hopefully see that, as well as being informative, the course is great fun.
